Job description
You will be responsible for communicating effectively with highly technical people and be at the front end of building solutions. You will be required to draw on your management and team leadership expertise, you will ensure that software meets the engineering standards and requirements specified by the business, and ensure successful delivery into production.
The Senior Agile Delivery Manager will actively build and promote an agile approach and environment, whilst ensuring the successful delivery of multiple outcomes via multi-disciplinary teams.
The DVLA is committed to professional development and this position has a learning framework in place, covering many certifications from recognised agile organisations and other areas. Offerings include training in coaching, facilitation, Scrum (certified to the highest level available with Scrum Alliance), Kanban, Scaling (Nexus) and agile leadership.
Responsibilities
- To effectively drive and lead all IT planning efforts, including sprint planning, launch and release milestones, timelines, and overall product roadmap in line with the Agency government digital agenda and IT Strategy.
- To ensure individual and organisational learning and development opportunities for Agile Methodologies are fully exploited by continuously assessing your team’s approach and sharing your knowledge with other Agile Leads in order to enhance organisational capability and understanding in this area whilst driving initiatives forward.
- To lead and manage effective and continuous development, implementation and evaluation by creating transparency and predictability across teams using appropriate Agile tools and metrics and align with the IT Strategy.
- Responsible for line management and coaching of multi-disciplined teams of highly skilled engineers, and ensuring that they are set up to successfully deliver against the IT Strategy.
- Responsible for creating a team environment that engenders delivery at pace whilst also remaining flexible enough to adapt to changing business priorities, and championing and coaching best-practice across the DVLA agile community.
Great line management is important to DVLA, and line managers will be supported to develop the skills they need to create teams where people can flourish and deliver excellent outcomes for the public.
Person specification
To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience:
- You have experience in delivering digital products and services, able to balance multiple priorities across an ever-changing landscape. You will be professionally curious taking an interest in the wider community and always looking for the next big thing.
- You should have a technical background and will have experience of managing a range of complex and large-scale deliveries using agile methodologies.
- You have experience of managing a team, driving a positive team culture and supporting professional development across your teams.
- You will be a strong advocate for continuous professional development and be an ambassador for changing the culture across government.

Working hours, office attendance and travel requirements
Full time roles consist of 37 hours per week. DVLA welcomes applications from those looking to work on a part-time basis, but there is a business requirement for the successful candidate to work at least 35 hours per week.

Stage 1: Sift
For this role you will need to submit a CV, within your CV please provide detailed evidence of your experience of the following essential criteria:
- Experience of using agile methodologies.
- Balancing multiple priorities and dealing with ambiguity.
- Experience of direct line management.
The sift will take place 01/06/26.
Stage 2: Technical Assessment
If your application is successful at sift, you will be invited to complete a technical assessment hosted by Inspire People. You will complete a technical task and your response will be recorded and shared with the DVLA panel.
The task will be assessed against GDaD Framework – Senior Delivery Manager – Agile and Lean Practices, Skill level: Expert.
The assessment stage will take place week commencing 01/06/26. Guidance will be provided if you are invited to assessment.
Stage 3: Interview
At interview stage, you will be assessed only against the following Success Profiles elements:

Interviews will take place from 15/06/26 and will be conducted in person at DVLA’s Swansea office. Further details will be provided if you are selected for interview.
